Vulvodynia Definition and Symptoms
Vulvodynia is chronic pain in and around the opening of the vagina, yet there is no apparent cause present. This condition can last months to years with no relief. The cause of vulvodynia is still unknown however some factors that doctors believe attribute are injury to the nerves surrounding the vulva, allergies or hypersensitiviy, past vaginal infections, and hormone changes. Symptoms include burning, soreness, stinging, throbbing, and itching in the genital area, as well as painful intercourse.
