Syringohydromyelia Symptoms

Syringomyelia

This is a spinal cord cyst. This is a cyst which has been formed which has fluid inside it. It is a neurological disorder. The cyst may have started as the individual was an adolescent or in their young adult years. It destroys the center of the spinal cord. As this cyst expands it will affect the nerves that arouse the individual’s arms, legs, shoulders, and back.

The symptoms could occur as early as in the individual’s teenage years. The symptoms may be triggered by a fall, coughing, and minor trauma or even from straining. Some of the signs could be related to other disorders it is wise to be seen by a doctor.

Symptoms of Syringomyelia

The individual will feel quite a bit of pain and weakness in their shoulders, arms, legs, and back. They may also have difficulty deciding whether objects are hot or cold. Some of these symptoms will vary between each individual. It will also depend on where the cyst is located in their spine and how big it has grown. The symptoms will develop slowly. It will also cause pain in the individual’s shoulders, arms, legs, and back. It can also cause headaches. It is also known to cause weakness in the shoulders, back, arms, and legs. Stiffness can occur in the legs, arms, shoulders, and back.

Another symptom is loss of hand sensation. They could also find that they have a loss of reflexes. There could be numbness and pain in their face. Scoliosis could also occur. They could develop problems with the function of their bowel and bladder. If it is not treated properly it could lead to neurological deficits and long-lasting and become very painful.

Developing syringomyelia can be a very painful thing. If you have it treated properly you will be able to start feeling the relief that you deserve. The most important thing to do is be seen by a doctor because a lot of the symptoms for syringomyelia is the same as for other disorders. A doctor will know the proper tests to have done to find out for sure. This is not a disease to take lightly.
