Small Bowel Obstruction Definition and Symptoms
Small bowel obstruction is when the small intestine is partially or completely blocked. This causes stool to be unable to properly leave the body. Stool, fluid, and gas build up in the intestine, making this a very serious medical condition. Symptoms include cramping and stomach pain that comes in waves, vomiting, bloated “hard” belly, constipation with a lack of gas if intestine is completely blocked, and diarrhea if the intestine is partially blocked.
