Overcoming Jealousy and Insecurity

Jealousy and insecurity are two very natural attributes of a person. In a sense, almost every person in the world would be jealous and insecure. The extent to which one is jealous and insecure would vary. Some people would be extremely jealous and insecure. Some would be mildly jealous or insecure. Also, some people are jealous and insecure in several relationships, circumstances and in life. Some people may be jealous in a specific instance, of only one person in particular or insecure in just one relationship. Jealousy and insecurity are not only prevalent in marriages. They are omnipresent in social circles, workplaces and even within family members.

Overcoming jealousy and insecurity is an uphill battle. To win it, you need to make an effort. Here is how you should approach your jealousy and insecurity.

Give yourself a reality check. You being jealous will not change anything in the world. To offer a very childish example, if you are jealous of someone owning an amazing car then that jealousy will not enable you to buy the car. To offer a mature example, if you are jealous of your partner having a better and more interesting social life then your feeling will change nothing. You will continue to have a poor social life and your partner will continue to have an enticing one. No matter what you are jealous of, the feeling doesn’t change a thing in the world. Your feeling jealous will also have no positive impact in your life. You will continue to feel bad and you are unlikely to do anything that will make you less jealous or not jealous at all, which is the secret to be happy.

Jealousy often stems from insecurity and that is why the two are interrelated. Insecurity stems from low self esteem or an inability to do something. A financially struggling man may feel insecure when his girlfriend is with rich friends. A middle aged wife may feel insecure when her husband has younger female friends. The secret to overcoming insecurity is to have self confidence. If you have an inability, which may be lack of knowledge, resources or if you are not in the best of shape then you need to tackle them first. You should work on the causal factor of jealousy and insecurity to overcome them.

Finally, you should always try to work towards goals that make you happy and instill a sense of accomplishment in you. The more you achieve and the happier you are with yourself and your life, the less jealous and insecure you would be.
