Bed bug phobia is very real and it is very common. While a lot is spoken about vertigo and claustrophobia among others because they are very common, bed bug phobia is not as frequently talked about or shed light upon. It is natural for anyone to have bed bug phobia. Some experts may refer to it as entomophobia or insectophobia, but it actually isn’t that.
Bed bugs are very small, almost unnoticeable in some cases, insects that have oval but flat bodies. Some bed bugs may be bigger but they usually are the size of a pinhead. Bed bugs are usually not found in abundance, certainly not in homes or offices, but they thrive in unhygienic or unclean conditions. That is why hotels or motels, hospitals and any place that is not always kept clean or is accessed and used by innumerable people who may not necessarily be clean and hygienic would have the bed bug problem.
Bed bug phobia doesn’t deal with a problem of bed bugs. It is actually a state of mind, more of a psychological condition, which makes one believe that bed bugs are present in the place where one is. One may be at home, at work, at a diner or on the train, bed bug phobia will linger on without any respite.
Bed bug phobia usually stems from the awareness that there were bed bugs somewhere which have been accounted for. If a home has been infected with bed bugs or any place that a person visits, even if the place is fumigated and all bed bugs are gotten rid of, the bed bug phobia will compel a person to believe that there are bed bugs and that the place is still infected.
It is best to opt for a psychological consultation if one has bed bug phobia because in most cases, it is an underlying phobia or psychological condition that leads to this. There may be some preexisting concerns in the mind of the person that manifests itself as the bed bug phobia. A person may be uncomfortable on a bed or unhappy with the mattress and that simple reality can lead to bed bug phobia whenever there is any discomfort, if there was a bed bug problem some time back. A person may be unhappy staying at a place, may have physiological problems in some parts of the body which may lead to itching or strange sensations and a person may directly infer that it is a problem of bed bugs. That too is bed bug phobia.
Professional consultation is imperative if bed bug phobia gets worse.
