How Much Do Estheticians Make

Estheticians are most commonly employed at either doctor’s offices or at salons. These are the people who perform professional hair removal through threading, waxing, or other methods. For many, this may seem like the perfect career move, while others have tried this route and been less than successful. Here, we will look at how much estheticians make, as well as what employees look for. We will also look at special skills that can help you to make more and become more successful in this field.

How Much Do They Make?

Your average salary per year as an esthetician can really depend on a number of factors. Normally, these workers make between $58,000 and $11,000 dollars per year. The largest factors include experience, skills to promote yourself and keep customers, as well as where you live. On average, these workers make the most money in urban places like Colorado, Boston, Seattle, and LA. Cities like Atlanta, Detroit, and Miami tend to pay on the lower side of the spectrum. Keep in mind that these are just averages, and you could easily make either more or less than these estimates.

Experience: Very Important

In this field, experience actually working as an esthetician in a spa, salon, or medical facility is very important. Although you may start out not making quite as much as others, keep in mind that the longer you work, the most clients, skills, and experience you can acquire. With more experience, you can more easily apply to higher paying jobs in other geographic areas, or just in other locations in your own area. Consider some of the lower paying jobs (especially those that you get right after completing your training program) as an investment towards your future, instead of just a low paid job.

Other Important Skills

There are also other important skills that employers seek out in professional estheticians. This includes things like customer service skills, the ability to promote your own work, help to promote their business, and a certain friendliness with customers and patients. If you are a very motivated professional who can really shine when working with or for others, trying your best to make them comfortable, and are just fine in learning about new skills and techniques to increase the appeal of your services, then you may very well find yourself offered much better jobs (and paid much more) than others.
