Lifespan of Married Men

The Effects Of Marriage On Your Health

Are you currently married? Are you considering getting married? If your actually married or your considering getting married that great because the life expectancy for married people is much longer than that of their single counterparts.

What the Statistics Say

Studies done over the past 150 years have shown that marriage is in fact good for your health. Married men tend to live 17 years longer. So prepare yourself. If you’re a single male you could possibly die 17 years earlier than a married man. Single men have a 32% higher risk of death at an early age as compared to married men.

The Positive Effects of Marriage

Why do married men live longer than single men? There are a number of reasons. Men that are not married, divorced, or widowed don’t eat as well as married men. Married men have wives that make home cooked meals on a regular basis.

In addition to not eating healthy cooked meals, men who are not married are less likely to exercise. Most unmarried men tend to smoke and drink a lot more and partake in risky behaviors.

Are you married to an educated woman? If you have an educated wife that’s even better, as a 2009 study revealed that men married to highly educated women have a much lower death rate. In 2002, a study demonstrated that men who had a more educated wife had a reduced incidence of coronary artery disease.

Based on a study of 27,779 cancer cases, men who were not married were much more likely to have cancer in an advanced stage by the time they were diagnosed with cancer. Likewise, married men had a higher survival rate as compared to men who were not married because they often get medical care on a regular basis. Married men certainly have a much higher standard of living compared to men who are not married.

Married men have a much lower risk of suffering from depression and are more likely to have a happy healthy retirement. However, once a partner passes away the chances that the surviving partner will suffer from an illness, disease, or disability increases significantly. Men are definitely more vulnerable than their female counterparts.

Are you sociable? Approximately 82% of men who are not quite sociable have a increased risk of dying as a result of heart disease. Moreover, men who have never gotten marries are 3 times more likely to die due to some form of cardiovascular disease.

Keep in mind that a recent British study revealed that 34% of people who are in a stressful relationship tends to increase your risk of heart attacks and angina. So, if you’re in a stressful marriage being married will not be beneficial to your long-term health.
