Did you know that many of the products on the market to treat acne can actually make matters worse? Many of the advertised creams and ointments can irritate and dry out the skin. This can actually make a mess of the face, begging the question of whether it’s better than the acne itself. There are many holistic methods to treat acne – and this may be the best way to enhance the look and feel of the skin across your face.

The Popularity of Holistic Methods

Holistic healing is becoming a more popular as people in the Western Hemisphere learn what it means. It is a way of treating the entire body instead of treating only one issue. Holistic medicine has been used in the Eastern Hemisphere for thousands of years – and it wouldn’t have been used for so long if it didn’t work.

A variety of natural products can help to get rid of acne or at least reduce some of the redness and pain that you may be experiencing with the breakouts.

Honey can be used as a mask on the affected areas. Manuka honey is best, but any raw honey will be able to help you because of its antibacterial properties. It is capable of removing skin impurities and can be one of the best cleansers when you have acne prone skin.

If you’re unsure about applying honey to your face, aloe vera is another product with antibacterial properties. You can apply it directly to the affected area and then rinse it off after 15 minutes.

Additional Ways to Help Yourself

These can be purchased in small glass bottles with droppers. Tea tree and lavender both have a number of antibacterial properties and all it takes is adding one drop to the affected area. Various recipes exist to use these oils within a face mask as well.

There are a few products that you would think about putting on food before you ever thought about putting it on your face. This includes mustard and garlic. Mustard has natural salicylic acid in it. If you’ve ever looked at Clearasil and some of the other products on the market, salicylic acid is one of the most predominant ingredients. Garlic has antibacterial as well as antifungal properties, which can help to reduce the number of flare-ups from pimples that have already popped.

Other foods can be used to create a paste to smear across your face. This includes cinnamon powder as well as blackstrap molasses. These are rich in zinc, vitamin B6, and various other vitamins and nutrients.

You may consider most of these foods something that you should put in your mouth instead of on your face or the other areas that you are affected by acne, but the truth of the matter is, they are high in antioxidants and various other minerals that your skin needs in order to maintain its health. When you choose products that are rich in antioxidants, you fight off the free radicals, and this can also help to reduce the scarring left by acne.
