Home Remedies for Sugar Ants

Sugar ants are very persistent and they are very cute creatures. However, if your kitchen is full of them, most probably, you’ll get pissed off. These insects love sweets very much, and they don’t get diabetes (good for them). They collect and collect and collect lot of sweets and bring it back to their colony – in their brood. They are very tiny so basically, they can encompass your whole kitchen through passive over the smallest cracks or chinks. Well, it’s harsh to terminate them totally because they are an important part of the eco-system still, isn’t it? However, they are considered as pests especially when they crossed the border without your permission and start collecting your supply of sugar and sweets silently without uttering any words like “hey! can I have some of your sweets?” So, what’s the right thing to do then, aside from declaring war with them? Is there a diplomatic way to get rid of them? Well… Find out and read more.

Good thing you stayed, so back to the topic. Basically, by just maintaining proper sanitation and cleanliness in your home – it’s a diplomatic way already. Why, you ask? Because they will hesitate – no not literally, they will be ashamed of stepping in your shining, shimmering tiles or well painted walls. But, the thing is as long as they don’t sense something inviting, or something sweet, they will never ever break into your kitchen. Meaning, if you store the foods well and you properly clean the mess, you dispose all the trash properly; they don’t have any reason to conquer your home. However, if you will say that you’ve done all of these steps already and you can’t still see any signs of their retreat and surrender; it’s the time that you have to declare an all out war! (Sorry ants).

Here’s the battle plan: you can DIY this thing without buying a spray of insecticide which is harmful to Mother Nature. What you need is homemade bait which will work efficiently and effectively to end the dispute on sugar supply. The art of war that you’ll get from here is lethal and it will not only kill the entire soldiers of their colony but all the ants that you don’t see as well. The bait that you will mix will be gathered by their workers, bring it to the colony and then they will all share to consume it, thus, leaving no one alive.

You just need two ingredients actually, boric acid and mint jelly. You can find boric acid in the nearest hardware. Mix 8 oz of mint jelly and 2 tbs. of boric acid. Get an empty squeeze condiment container and fill it with the mixture for an easier application.

When your mixture is ready, get a masking tape and place it on the ground where you can see a huge amount of sugar-ant traffic. Squeeze some of your mixture on the tape to serve as your bait. You have to vigilantly observe if they are taking your bait and they are going back again to their base. After a few hours, the bait will take effect and congratulations! You win!
