Glioblastoma Multiforme Life Expectancy

Within the scope of cancer, many causes are similar, in both tumor size and growth. Glioblastoma Multiforme, a common malignant brain tumor, is usually linked to cancer growth in the brain cells. Although it is the most aggressive of the gliomas, groups of tumors that arise from glia, understanding the tumors actions and description can help uncover treatments for it.

What Is Glioblastoma Multiforme

Glioblastoma is very aggressive, being placed at a level 4, from a 1-4 level scale that deals with glia. Although it is quite aggressive, it can be stopped, within various treatments and preventions. The tumor works quickly, attacking the surrounding brain tissue found inside one’s head. The tumor attacks at an alarming rate, its danger rising within days of its creation. The symptoms of the tumor can be linked to brain cancer symptoms, intense headaches and abnormal visions a few that fit under Glioblastoma. Treatments are available for the tumor, however are irregular in their success rates, as are cases with most tumor cases. If the tumor is found in its earlier stages, surgery may remove the condition, however it is not possible to completely assure this.

Causes of Glioblastoma Multiforme

Causes of this tumor are linked to causes of brain cancer, like its symptoms, the two are necessary for each other’s operations. Handling of hazardous materials, with constant exposure, has been related to brain cancer creation. Other causes like smoking, radiation intake, and viral infections have been discussed in relation to Glioblastoma creation, however they have not been proven. Talking on cellphones has been a popular myth related to brain cancer, however no studies has confirmed or denied such allegations, so a decision has yet to be reached. Staying away from these actions can greatly increase prevention rates, as these actions are linked to the cancer causing agents.

Life Expectancy

Life expectancy in dealing with glioblastoma is puzzling, as it ultimately depends on the person and how severe the case is. Most patients, who hear of having glioblastoma tumors, will likely be given a very short life expectancy as the tumor is very aggressive in its nature. Some patients can have a longer expectancy, as tumors don’t always have a set deadline on time, however most can expect only having a couple years left to live. Though surgery is usually successful, it will ultimately depend on the person’s will to survive, as battling tumors and cancers are one of the toughest jobs to do.
