Cancer is a widespread disease that affects many individuals and this has resulted in a variety of treatment options. Gerson therapy is a type of alternative cancer treatment that requires the use of a specialized diet. This diet involves the use of coffee enemas, supplements and juicing to clean out the body and rid itself of toxins. Gerson therapy is also said to improve your overall immune system and increase your metabolic rate. However, it remains to be seen how effective this form of cancer treatment actually is. What really matters is the Gerson therapy success rate.
What Is The Confusion?
Gerson therapy is not widely considered an effective treatment, because there is not enough scientific evidence to substantiate this treatment option. The lack of research and approval from medical professionals has led to this treatment option not being approved for use in the United States. Many actually believe that this alternate cancer treatment can actually do more harm to the body than good. In some cases, coffee enemas have been found to result in infection or serious dehydration.
Why Is It A Treatment Option?
Although some medical professionals in the United States do not support this type of cancer treatment, it is still promoted as a metabolic therapy. The entire theory behind this treatment lies in the assumption that toxins are the cause of disease and cancer. This theory then claims that the removal of toxins from the body will change the cells and rid the body of all malignant cells. Gerson therapy is designed to give your body a diet that works to remove the sodium from the cells and increase the potassium levels. Coffee enemas are then used to remove liver toxins and offer some pain relief.
Does It Work?
The success rate for this cancer treatment option is not really known, because not enough research has been completed. There is one study that shows Gerson therapy to be an effective form of treatment for more than half of the cancer patients tested, but this study has been proven flawed over time. This results in there being no clear or evident evidence that Gerson therapy actually works.
Clinical Trial Success Rates
In the flawed study that was completed on over 153 cancer patients, it was found that individuals suffering from melanoma and ovarian cancers had higher survival rates with Gerson therapy over other treatment options. However, this study has been universally criticized for being flawed.
