Fibrocystic breast disease is when the breasts are made up of tissue that feels lumpy or rope like. This type of tissue is called nodular or glandular breast tissue. The exact cause of fibrocystic breast disease is still unknown, however estrogen is believed to play a vital role. Symptoms include breast pain or tenderness, green or dark brown nipple discharge, monthly increase in breast pain just before a menstrual cycle, and breast lumps that blend into surrounding tissue.
