Today, there are no famous people who suffer from Rett Syndrome. This kind of health issue is not too popular because this is a very rare. There are only few people who suffer from this condition. And there are times that out of ten people, there’s only one person who suffer from it. It is a fact that this is one of the health conditions that need immediate treatment. Even though it is a rare health condition, most doctors always give their patients with reminders that will help them in avoiding this kind of syndrome. They also give them advanced treatment to fight or control the development of the common symptoms of Rett syndrome.

Rett syndrome is a neuro developmental disorder in the gray matter of the brain. The innovative term or this health condition is Cerebroatrophic Hyperammonemia. The clinical characteristic of the people who suffer from this health condition is that their feet and hands are in the deceleration of head development. The stereotype or repetition hand movements like they always put their hands in their mouth and repeated sopping. These two is the primary thing or action that you and other people will see the individuals who have rett syndrome. They are always in a certain health level that suffers them from serious seizures and gastrointestinal disorder.

Signs and Symptoms

The signs and symptoms of this syndrome are similar or present in autism and cerebral palsy. For patients who have autism:

• Grief-stricken crying
• Incontinence
• Hyperventilation
• Air swallowing
• Breath holding
• Hysterics screaming
• Speech loss
• Avoid eye contact
• Lack of reciprocity in emotional and social
• Make use of non-verbal behaviors in order to have clear social conversation
• Sensory issues

The signs and symptoms in cerebral palsy are also present in rett syndrome and these are:
• Ataxia
• Hypotonia
• There are times that they have an strange body proportion
• Don’t have the ability to walk
• They have difficulties in creating different movements
• Dystonia
• Irregular movements of facial muscles and hands – Chorea
• Has poor head growth or usually have a small size of head
• Gastrointestinal issues
• Spasticity
• Grinding of teeth or so called bruxism

The causes of rett syndrome are germline mutations, sporadic mutations, midbrain dopaminergic disturbance, and pontine noradrenic deficits.

Treatment

When it comes to the treatment used in this health condition, patients who suffer from it will have a lot of options. But, before they undergo to these treatments, they must consult first their doctor so that they will have the assurance that it will not give them side effects.

• Sleep aids
• Parental counseling
• Observation in the long QT and scoliosis syndrome
• Adapt social treatments
• SSSRIs or Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors
• Enhance the communication skills of the patients primarily in augmentative communication
• Giving immediate solution in poor weight issues and constipation and reflux outcomes
• Beta blockers
• Anti-psychotics – when they are harming their self or some people
• Physical therapy
• Occupational therapy
• Speech therapy
