Famous People with Osteogenesis Imperfecta

 
Osteogenesis imperfecta is a type of genetic disorder that affects the bones of a person. The individuals who were diagnosed with this kind of disorder can experience loss of hearing and their bones will break easily without any reason. This illness doesn’t affect only the bones of its victims. It can also cause weak muscles and curved spines depending on its severity. Osteogenesis imperfecta occurs when one of the genes of a person is not working properly. As a result, the production of collagen which is necessary in strengthening the bones becomes affected. Here are some of the famous individuals in the whole world who were diagnosed with this kind of genetic disorder:

1. Michael J. Anderson

Michael J. Anderson was diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta at the time of his birth. One of the worst effects of this illness in him is the inability to walk. And Anderson has successfully overcome this problem when he reached his period of twenties. However, osteogenesis imperfecta didn’t stop him in pursuing his ambition which is to become a famous actor. One of his greatest accomplishments in the film making industry is the movie entitled “Twin Peaks” where he acted as the man from another place.

2. Doug Herald

The real name of this guy is Douglas Doug John Herald. He was an excellent athlete who won a bronze medal in a Rowing game of 1984 Olympics. He was also diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta upon his birth. But this illness didn’t stop him in from entering the world of adaptive rowing. In fact he became more active in the sport while suffering from this genetic disorder. He also used his condition to inspire other people with disabilities to play Rowing.

3. Nabil Shaban

Nabil Shaban is a famous British author and an actor. He made a lot of crime thriller series and one of his most popular accomplishments is “The Ripper Code”. Now he is already 57 years old and still fighting the negative effects of osteogenesis imperfecta in his body. But he continues to inspire other people by making new projects as an author of several books. He is now working with a theater production company called “The Graeae”. This organization aims to help those individuals with disabilities by training them to become professional stage performers. This company serves as the instrument of Nabil Shaban in expressing his great confidence in his performance even if some individuals do not trust his ability and skills as a person.

4. Atticus Shaffer

Atticus Shaffer is a popular child actor in ABC channel who suffers from type IV osteogenesis imperfecta. The illness caused several bone fractures in his body and many rods were already attached in his bones to support his body. However, Atticus Shaffer did not consider his illness as a hindrance to his dreams. In fact, he said that osteogenesis imperfecta was just a small part of his life and identity as a person. Right now he is already twelve years old and he still continues to pursue his dreams by accomplishing several projects in ABC Channel.
