Famous People with Impulse Control Disorder

As of now, there are no famous people with impulse control disorder. This condition affects the mental health of a person. ICD or impulse control disorder is a type of psychiatric disorder which can be described through impulsivity. Impulsivity is the failure to resist temptation, impulse and the urge which can harm oneself or the people who surround the patient. There are lots of psychiatric disorders that can be characterized as impulsivity. These are the borderline personality disorder, substance related disorder, mood and schizophrenia disorders, paraphilias, anti personality disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity, and conduct disorder.

5 Types of Impulse Control Disorder

There are 5 types of impulse control disorder and these are:

1. Pyromania
This is usually characterized as the repetitive and impulsive urges in deliberating start of fire. Very few studies that performed fire settings due to its nature. But, study shows that 2.4 to 3.5 percent of adolescence and children usually suffer from pyromania.

2. Kleptomania
It is described as the act of stealing for the sake of satisfaction. In United States, there are 6 individuals who have kleptomania for every 1,000 persons and 5 percent of shoplifting incidents happen annually. In fact, about 100,000 people are being arrested in the United Stated because of this mental disorder.

3. Pathological Gambling
Pathological gambling is characterized as the re-current and maladaptive episodes of gambling which is really disruptive in personal and familial life. According to some surveys, about 1 to 3 percent of adults have pathological gambling and 4 to 7 percent of teenagers have this kind of mental disorder.

4. ICD’s
• Internet addiction – this is included in the form of ICDs. The damaging and excessive use of internet can increase the amount of time that people use for gambling, in exploring the pornographic sites, chatting, and web surfing.

• Sexual compulsion – it can also lead to some specific consequences. The number of cases of sexual compulsion for men is increasing every year as compared to women.

• Compulsive shopping –children who have this ICDs might have the attitude and tendency to shop for unnecessary items that cannot be afford by their parents. This particular condition is very common among females. In fact, 80 to 90 percent of women have this based on the surveys made.

5. Intermittent Explosive Disorder
IED is the clinical condition that is typically experienced as repeated and aggressive episodes that can lead the patients to stress.

Common Symptoms

When it comes to the signs and symptoms of it, the common symptoms that you will see to patients who have this are growing intension, acting pleasure, impulse, urge release, and feeling guilty. The treatments that are used in treating this disorder are:

Pharmaceutical
The medicines that can cure this disorder are fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, clomipramine, paroxetine, and escitalopram. These medicines are available in most pharmacies today.

Psychosocial
For the psychological treatment, various treatments can be used depending on the type of impulse control disorder that a certain patient has. These treatments are really proven effective in hastening the recovery process of a patient. These treatments will never make the condition of the patient worse.
