Famous People with Communication Disorders

 
Communication Disorders refer to the different kinds of speech and language disorders. This kind of disorder affects the ability of a person to utter words or to perform verbal communication. People who have this kind of disorder possess limited ability in socializing with other persons through speaking. It causes several problems in the oral motor functions of a person. And as a result, their ability to communicate becomes limited compared to what the normal individuals can do. In this article, the different examples of famous people with communication disorders will be discussed one by one. The following are examples of famous individuals who were diagnosed with this kind of disorder:

1. Truman Capote

Truman Capote was a famous American author who was diagnosed with communication disorders. He lived a very sad life in his childhood years when his parents decided to divorce. At the age of eleven, since he cannot speak in a very natural way, he decided to train himself to become good writer. Communication disorder didn’t stop him in continuing his ambition which is to become a famous writer and a television icon. At the age of 24, he finally accomplished his first professional project which was a novel entitled “Other Voices Other Rooms”. When he stopped working as a writer, he immediately entered the world of television shows by serving as a celebrity for talk shows in the period of 1970’s. There, he tried his best to improve his celebrity image regardless of the effects of communication disorders in his performance.

2. Richard Condon

Richard Condon was a famous American political novelist in the past. He has a communication disorder just like Truman Capote. However, his problem is more of speech impairment. Instead of becoming a politician and a good speaker, he chose to become a writer in order to express his feelings. Richard Condon didn’t’ underestimated his own abilities. He didn’t mind his disability in pursuing his own dream and he tried his best to inform the people with all the things that they need to know about the traitors in politics by writing several novels and books that will interpret his thoughts and knowledge in the field of politics. Richard Condon became a very successful author for the rest of his life. And his profession and achievements made him far different from other disabled people who lived a very miserable life after surrendering several opportunities because of their disabilities.

3. George VI

George VI was one of the most remarkable leaders of the United Kingdom and the British Commonwealth in the past. He was a former leader of the United Kingdom who served for almost one and a half decade in the British Commonwealth as a King. Before he became a King, he was asked to deliver a speech in front of the British people as a Duke. Right after the speech, he immediately consulted a speech therapist named Lionel Logue to assist him in improving his skills in speaking and speech delivery. The speech therapist noticed that the main problem of the King is somehow related to stuttering. And he trained George VI to become a good speaker through regular breathing exercises and speech lessons for several months. Because of the determination of the King, he achieved a lot of improvements in his speech skills.
