Cleft lip is a kind of congenital deformity that is commonly caused by failed development during pregnancy. This is formed on top of the lips or nose and occurs on 600 to 800 births.
Cheech Marin. He is an American actor and comedian born on July 13, 1946. He gained recognition in the comedy act during the 1970s & early 1980s. He was born with cleft lip that can no longer be repaired. He speaks Spanish fluently and it is used in some of his movies. The disease is not a hindrance to his career, but instead he used it as his trademark and he is known for his Mexican accented tone.
Rita MacNeil. She is born on 28 May 1944. She is a Canadian folk singer from Nova Scotia’s Cape on Breton Island. She has Top 40 hits in 1987 and she is also included in the country charts in the UK. Unfortunately, she has cleft lip and cleft palate, but the disease did not stop her to continue her career in the industry.
Doc Holiday. He is a gambler, dentist as well as gunfighter of the well known American Old West Frontier. He is born in Griffin Georgia and his father served during the Civil War and Mexican-American War. At birth, he already has cleft lip and cleft palate and it was repaired surgically by his uncle who is a surgeon. After the surgery, he went through a speech therapy that was performed by his mother. The cleft lip is also visible in his upper lip line. His deformity did not become a hindrance for him since he successfully graduated from a dental school after his surgery.
Wendy Harmer. She is a former radio star, author and Australian comedian. She is the eldest and her parents separated when she was ten years old. She has a double cleft lip that was not fixed until she reached the age of 15. During her youthful days, the lady experienced bullying and stares from the town where she grew up. This experience served as her strength in order to pursue her career and fulfill her dreams in life.
Peyton Manning. He was born on March 4 1976. He is a football quarterback and currently plays in the National Football League. He is considered as among the best active football players in the League. He has cleft lip, but the player did not stop continuing his passion in football. He is considered as New York Giants’ quarterback in the National Football League.
Thomas Malthus. He was born on February 13, 1766 and died on December 23, 1834. He developed the theory of demand-supply that he called guts. Malthus declined to have a portrait since he has cleft lip and cleft palate in his mouth which influenced his speech. He has gone through surgical correction and became handsome. The defects are relatively common in his family. With the theory that he developed, he will not be forgotten as one of the famous people with cleft lip.
