Epidural Steroid Injection Side Effects

Epidural steroid injection is known as non surgical treatment that is used to treat pain and inflammation from pressure n the roots of the spinal nerve. It is combined with corticosteroid which is strong anti inflammatory medicines and local anesthetic pain relief medicine that immediately gives fast strong pain relief.

Those who are needed to be given with epidural steroid injection are those who are experiencing a very painful head ache while sitting up, those having a fever of 101 degrees or greater, losing function and feeling in the arms or legs, loss of bowel and bladder control, and severe uncontrolled pain. These are some of the symptoms for you to know if you are needed to undergo ESI. The Epidural steroid injection usually takes up to 15 and 30 minutes, it includes the use of fluoroscopy or live x-ray.

Not everyone are allowed to have epidural steroid injection, those who should avoid it are those person that are having bacterial infection, those pregnant women, those who have bleeding problems, suffering from tumor and other infections and those that are taking aspirin and other drugs that are anti platelet. Because the wrong use of this medication just like any other drug can lead to the cause of many side effects.

Side Effects

With its great effects, there are also some consequences that a patient can experience, such side effects are the following:

• It can cause get increase of pain
• It can result into having a high blood sugar
• Severe pain and arthritis in the hips
• Stomach ulcers
• Difficulty in sleeping
• Fever
• Anxiety
• Decrease in immunity
• Cataracts
• Flushing of the face
• Headaches
• Infections
• Bleeding
• Nerve damage
• Allergic reactions
• Paralysis

All medicines have side effects that are why in order to be aware and deal with it, it is important to consult and seek the help of the doctor. You should not be afraid to ask about the side effects of the medicines that you are taking in, or if not you can also look for its side effects that are listed on the bottle of your medicine. If you have experience severe side effects that have listed here, it is better to tell it your doctor, by doing that you will avoid the risks that can be harmful to your health.

If your doctor will know about it, he would lower or change the dose of your medicine. But remember before changing or switching to other medicine, it should be recommended by the doctor. In order for you to avoid such side effects it is important to follow what the doctor told you to do so. You don’t have to increase the dose of your medicine in order for you to have better result and fast treatment. Rather it should be take with the proper those that are recommended by the doctor, remember that the result and effectiveness of any medicine is always greater than the side effects that a person might experience.
