We live in a society that is all about sugar. You find it everywhere and Type 2 diabetes has become an epidemic because of all the sugary snacks and drinks people love to ingest. People blame two culprits for this.
Cane Sugar vs High Fructose Corn Syrup
One of the culprits is cane sugar or table sugar. Cane sugar is sucrose which is extracted from sugar cane a tropical plant. People have been using it for hundreds of years. It is harvested and run through presses to get the juice out of them. Then the juice is evaporated in a purification process and then boiled to allow it to crystallize.
High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is a liquid sweetener that has replaced cane sugar within the food industry. It is found in all the sugary drinks that people consume. Unlike the cane sugar it comes from corn. It is an additive found mostly in processed foods along with sodas. HFCS is popular among food producers because it is much cheaper than its solid counterpart, sugar. HFCS is considered to possess empty calories and is not easily or quickly processed in our bodies.
While both add sweetness to any end product, the way they are made is considerably different as well as the way our bodies process it. Most things are always better for you in a more natural form.
