Circumcision Pros and Cons

A lot of parents of boys are facing a common problem, is it good to circumcise or not? Circumcision is a medical procedure that provides some advantages and disadvantages. For some people, they use religion as their guide while for others, the concluding determination normally goes down to individual preferences and what parents consider will make their son healthiest and happiest.

However, before parents can decide on whether they want their kids to undergo this medical procedure, they first need to weigh circumcision pros and cons. Yes, there are both advantages and disadvantages provided when a person undergoes a circumcision. So, you need to know those, especially if you have a son whom you are thinking to let him undergo the procedure.

The Pros of Circumcision

Even though circumcision is a quite painful medical procedure, it has several advantages that most men should look into. These advantages primarily include the following:

1. A few parents decide to let their sons undergo circumcision as it fits with their cultural or religious beliefs. Hence, with circumcision, men will tend to accomplish their individual beliefs.

2. Another known benefit of this procedure is that a penis that is circumcised can make a man or boy less exposed to particular infections. This only means that circumcised men are less likely to suffer from infections that may lead to certain conditions. During the initial years of life, infections on the urinary tract take place only 1/10 as frequent in circumcised boys as compared with the ones who are not circumcised. According to a professional health organization, circumcised men might hold a relatively lower possibility of some sexually transmitted infections, which include HIV.

3. Another advantage offered by circumcision to men is the lower risk of having penile cancer. This condition, even though rare in any case, might be possible to be acquired by a man. However, in circumcised men, this condition is less likely to happen.

4. Furthermore, with circumcision, men’s penis is kept clean. In addition, the procedure does not affect a man’s fertility.

The Cons of Circumcision

However, even with several advantages, circumcision still draws some disadvantages. These disadvantages may include the following:

1. Just like any other medical procedures, the process of circumcision brings in some risks. The process may lead to an infection or excessive bleeding, but these results are known to be rare.

2. As expected, the circumcision procedure can truly be painful. In addition, since such procedure is usually done with kids, the pain felt for them may sometimes be intolerable. Sometimes, due to some infections, a person who undergone this procedure is likely to experience fever, especially for kids who have weak health.

3. There are also some claims that circumcision may also affect the sensitivity of one’s penis. However, this is yet without a proof whether it affects positively or negatively.

4. Circumcision changes the appearance of a man’s penis in such a way that is impossible or difficult to reverse afterward.

With the recognized pros and cons of circumcision, make sure to base your decision on those details.
