Carbidopa Levodopa Side Effects

The use of pharmaceutical drug is very popular in treating diseases which are just starting to develop and even those which are really at stages that needs an immediate medication. The use of those is very helpful to patients who wanted to prolong their years of existence. Considering the fact that all of those medicines have their downsides; the side effects which should be properly understood by the patient.

What is Carbidopa-Levodopa?

Carbidopa-levodopa is a combination drug that is being used in treating the most known Parkinson’s disease. These drugs are being prescribed to patients who have been suffering from dopamine deficiency on some parts of the brain. It is being believed in the study that the use of this medicine improves the conduction of the nerves in the human brain that lessens the intense of the disease. The Levodopa is the one that crosses into the brain while the Carbidopa is responsible in the prevention of the Levodopa breakdown. This drug should only be taken 3-4 times in a day following the prescribed dosage which should be taken by swallowing.

Drug Interactions

Although this drug is found to have been very helpful in treating Parkinson’s disease, it could have reverted it when the patient is taking other drugs without informing the physician that prescribe them to use Carbidopa -Levodopa. Interactions with other drugs which are in contrary with the purpose of it can increase the risk of side effects that the patient might have suffered from. That is the very reason why the patient should be properly assessed by the doctor. The treatment should ensure that the patient will be away from any serious problem which the medicine could have caused due to the patients irresponsible acts.

Side Effects

There are different side effects which are suffered by those patients who have been taking the medicine. The drug interactions have a big part on how the body conditions are to be triggered and worsen. If the symptoms to be mentioned below persist during the intake of Carbidopa-Levodopa seeking for a doctor’s advice should be done to ensure that the condition will be treated and will no longer be agitated. The following are the symptoms or side effects which can be experienced by the patient and can be observe by the doctor or other people.

1. Movement disorders
Knowing that Parkinson’s Disease is about movement disorders due to brains problems the medicine could have cause the condition to severe movement disorder if the effect is reverted.

2. Hallucinations
This happens when the brain is incapable to promote proper thinking.

3. Dizziness upon rising
Since this medicine is intended to cure brain problem; dizziness upon rising is to be experienced if the intake is not making beneficial to the human brain due to drug interactions.

4. Headaches
Headaches is to be felt if the brain is suffering from too much stress and if the medicine is working but in the other way around

5. Confusion
This is to be observed since the brain is the one being targeted by the medicine.

6. Trouble in sleeping
Experiencing trouble in sleeping is to be experience due to high dosage and negative effect of the drug.

7. Change on the color of saliva, urine or sweat
Since the medicine is to be taken 3 – 4 times in a day the saliva and urine of the patient will be experiencing changes in colors. The color might have been red, brown or black, but this symptoms isn’t too serious to be worried of.

8. Nausea and vomiting
This happens when the body does not want the medicine being swallowed.
