A sedentary lifestyle is not ideal for anybody, but is standing any better? Statistics say that an average weight woman that sits for eight hours of her day will burn 78 calories an hour. That may seem like a big reward for sitting on your behind all day but over an eight hour span that only adds up to 624 calories, most people eat more than that in one meal alone. If the same woman spent her work day standing however, the results aren’t drastically different, burning only 99 calories an hour on average making up 792 calories over eight hours. There are other things that a person does that may help add some additional calories into that “burned section”, like shivering, general fidgeting, and of course talking.
