Albacore Tuna vs Regular Tuna

For many years, tuna has been a favorite protein source for athletes, dieters and bodybuilders. Tuna is portable, low in fat, high in omega-3 essential fats, cheap and comes in different sizes. Many people consume tuna because of its many health benefits rather than its taste. It is important to know that there are different types of tuna which include albacore, black fin, yellowfin, bluefin, Skipjack, bonito and bigeye. Some of these tunas are more expensive than regular tuna. Albacore tuna is one of the most popular tunas in the USA. The fish is found in the eastern pacific oceanic areas. The regular tuna comes from the yellowfin.

Albacore Tuna

Since regular tuna and albacore tuna are easy to find, this makes them to be readily available at seafood restaurants and hotels across the United States. In most of these food joints, albacore tuna is prepared as sushi especially in Japanese restaurants. You should also know that unlike regular tunas, albacore contain more omega 3 fatty acids. This makes it healthier since it is good for the heart and fights against different types of cancer. The presence of fatty acids increases the total fat content and calorie value. It is good to know that albacore tuna has low amounts of mercury. However, you need to know that not all albacores are the same. Canned albacore tunas can be healthy while others may not. That’s why, before purchasing regular and albacore tuna, you need to make sure that the handling of fish and packaging was done the right way.

Regular Tuna

Adding flavors such as vegetable broth, water or soy sauce to your albacore tuna and regular tuna may interfere with the taste. When it comes to the fish size, it is believed that fishing smaller albacore tunas taste much better than bigger fish. Albacore has a non-metallic and non-fishy taste compared to regular tuna. The albacore tuna also has the lightest flesh than regular tuna. When shopping, you should be ready to spend more money on albacore tuna compared to regular tuna. You also need to be aware that albacore tuna has more fats and calories than regular tuna. Albacore is seen as a specific tuna compared to other types of tunas.

Conclusion

As you can see, regular tuna and albacore tuna are both tunas but have a lot of differences. Despite their differences, they both remain the favorite tunas for many people in United States. Each person has their favorite type of tuna; there those who love regular tuna and others prefer the albacore tuna. Whichever the case, both albacore and regular tunas are delicious, and everyone needs to eat them to experience their health benefits.
