Occipital Neuralgia Definition and Symptoms
Occipital neuralgia is a condition where the occipital nerves, the nerves that run from the top of the spinal cord up to the scalp, are injured. This is caused by compression to the nerves from injury or inflammation. Symptoms include tender scalp, pain when moving the neck, sensitivity to light, pain behind the eye, burning pain that starts at the base of the head, and pain on one or both sides of the head.
