Now if you really think about the difference between Bratwurst and Sausage, then you realize that there are many different types of Bratwurst and Sausages. But keep in mind that Bratwurst is a type of Sausage its self. Normally Bratwurst are cooked on the grill, while Sausage of other types are either made with breakfast or used as an appetizer with cheese and crackers.
But Bratwurst are different from most Sausages because in German Bratwurst means fried sausage. Bratwurst come in many different types. They have bratwurst that are filled with cheese, bratwurst that are filled with peppers, and plain bratwurst just to name a few. So if you don’t like a plain bratwurst, then you have others to choose from and eat that you actually will like.
Most other Sausages that you most likely know about are the Summer Sausage. Normally the summer sausage is used as an appetizer at parties, with cheese and crackers. Or if you are going to eat Sausage from breakfast, they are normally pork grind. Also you will notice that different sausages have different tastes as well.
For example, Summer Sausage has a tangy taste and along with the tangy taste it has a little bit of a bite to it as well. Bratwurst have a strong bite to them, but also sort of taste like the pork grind sausages that you would cook for breakfast, depending on which bratwurst you get. Now if you get chicken bratwurst, then it actually takes like chicken instead of the pork grind that you would normally get.
Bratwurst comes from German heritage and is still celebrated in the United States. In Wisconsin where the Bratwurst has become a social food that is BBQ’d on the weekends at a social event called the Brat Fry.
The Germans started making the Bratwurst to make sure that none of the meat went to waste and also so that they could have cured sausages, because other places that were trying to do cured sausages were making people sick from a new bacteria called Botulism.
The earliest dating back as far 1432. Back then, the guidelines were that it had to the unspoiled meat, and if it wasn’t the person who didn’t use unspoiled meat got fined a whole day of wages. But Bratwurst were always made so that none of the meat went to waste. Now days the Bratwurst is still made by unspoiled meat so that no meat goes to waste.
