Delsym Side Effects

Delsyms owned by Reckitt Benckiser which is an American brand, it’s an over the counter brand for cough without phlegm for relief, which contains Dextromethorphan, NMDA receptor cough suppressant, most often use for slightly dissociative and psychedelic effects. This should not be used people with ongoing cough due to smoking and long term problems regarding breathing such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

Benefits of Delsym

Since there’s no assurance if cough in cold product is effective and safe with children below 6 years of age, avoid giving them this product to cure cold symptoms unless prescribed by your doctor. Products like long acting capsules and tablets are also not recommended as medication by children below 12 years of age. Always ask for your pharmacist or doctor’s opinion before giving them this product.

These are not use to shorten or cure common cold and surely may cause serious problems and side effects. Follow properly the dosage directions, this product should not be given to children to make them feel asleep.

Side Effects

Symptoms of Overdose: confusion, blurred vision, difficulty in urination, nausea or vomiting, slowed breathing, drowsiness, dizziness, nervousness, unusual excitement, irritability, restlessness, change in vision, hallucinations, unsteady walk, seizures or loss of consciousness and skittling.
Skittling means the act of being high on the medicine, signs of abuse are: sweating, elevated blood pressure and slurred speech.

Least Common and Rare Side Effects: constipation, confusion, mild dizziness, headache, mild drowsiness, nausea, vomiting and stomach pain.

Warnings

Other side effects may occur and usually does not need any medical attention; these effects may not last and will go away during your treatment since your body adjusts to your medication. Your doctor will notify you on how to reduce or prevent said side effects. Talk to them immediately if symptoms persisted, continue and become bothersome.

Do not take Delsym if you’re allergic to dextromenthorphan or any of its ingredients, have respiratory depression: rate of breathing is below normal and are taking inhibators like MAO: maprotiline, moclobemide and selegiline or have them in previous weeks. High dosage of this product may cause and lead to serious cardiovascular issues or even death, and death have been also reported.

Physical Warnings

People with diabetes, glaucoma, breathing problems such as asthma or emphysema; heart problems, kidney problems, high blood pressures, seizures, liver diseases, over active thyroid, stomach or intestinal and urination problems should consult their doctors before using this product.

Since using these products together with other products that cause drowsiness including antihistamines, alcohol, drugs for sleep or anxiety, muscle relaxants and narcotic pain relievers. This may also interfere with definite laboratory test including urine 5-HIAA, this may cause false or negative result. Make sure your doctor and laboratory personnel know about this. Tell your health care specialist all products your using and keep a list of medications and share it with your pharmacist or doctor.

Other brands of these products contain alcohol, sugar or aspartame. Caution if you have alcohol dependence, diabetes, liver disease or any condition which requires you to limit these matter in your daily diet.
