Brain Eating Amoeba Symptoms

There are instances that even the healthiest person dies because of certain organisms. In some places, this is a common occurrence. It is especially the case in places where growth of organisms like brain-eating amoeba is high. These organisms often lead to sudden and tragic death no matter how healthy a person is. These amoebas are single-celled. The brain eating species of amoebas were only discovered in the year 1965. It was believed that the organisms evolved in the United States even though it was identified in a different place.

These are organisms that can be found where water is present, especially the warm ones. It can live and survive in temperatures about 113 degrees Fahrenheit. Brain eating amoeba can be found in mud puddles, warm lakes and ponds, even rock pits and untreated spas and pools. People become infected with the organism from water skiing and performing any water sports. The organism passes through the nose and makes their way to the brain. You will know when you become infected with the organisms if you experience the brain eating amoeba symptoms.

The symptoms are the same with viral meningitis, which are headache, fever, changed mental state, vomiting, appetite loss, seizures and stiff neck. It also involves hallucinations, losing one’s sense of taste, drooping eyelids and blurred vision.

Once the organisms entered your nose, it will continue to travel into your brain. Once it entered the brain, brain and brain lining inflammation will begin. This is called amoebic meningoencephalitis, which is popularly termed as brain-eating amoeba. Experiencing the brain eating amoeba symptoms entails the occurrence of 2 stages. The stages start once the patient is exposed to the brain-eating amoeba contaminated water source.

Brain Eating Amoeba Symptoms: Stage 1

The brain eating amoeba symptoms in stage begins after 2 to 7 days after the exposure to the water. The symptoms included here are experiencing severe headache felt on the frontal area, fever, nausea and vomiting.

Brain Eating Amoeba Symptoms: Stage 2

The symptoms in this stage begin after 1 to 12 days following the symptoms in stage 1 are felt. These symptoms include stiff neck, seizures, hallucinations, coma and changed mental status.

The progression of the condition is too quick that the cause is not identified until after the person dies. The condition only indicates that waters sports are not only dangerous, but also deadly. It is not because of what may happen during the water activity, but of brain eating amoeba that may possible be lurking underwater. However, even with this possible danger, people still love performing water sports. It cannot really be helped since these are thrilling activities. But, it would help to take extra caution. If there have been past reports that involve death linked to the waters of the place, it will be better to avoid going there.

The presence of these organisms in the bodies of water does not come as a threat to people. That is because people have no knowledge that it is infected. So, to avoid being infected by these organisms and prevent brain eating amoeba symptoms, be sure to bring nose clips when performing water sports.
