Difference Between Tonic Water and Sparkling Water

Back in the day, it used to simply be water, the healthiest liquid there was and, as a matter of fact, it even was the healthiest thing anyone could put into their bodies. It still is, if we’re talking about plain water. There is quite a variety of water types nowadays and it is hard to know what the real difference is amongst them. In this article we are going to look at tonic water and at sparkling water.

Some of these types of water, depending on the brand and on your personal tastes, you might want to grab and drink it away from the bottle, and others you might want to just mix in your alcohol and stick to that.

Sparkling Water

Starting off with sparkling water, it is just plain, simple water that was artificially carbonated with pressurized carbon dioxide gas dissolved into it. It’s a great way to keep refreshed through the day if you don’t like plain water and, on top of that, it is also a great way to avoid drinking sodas to have a healthier lifestyle. If you drink sparkling water instead of soda, you are going to be missing out on, basically, a lot of calories, dyes and sodium, none of these things is good for your body in the amounts sodas have, so it’s a good thing.

Sparkling water is mixed with alcohol, a little bit of lemon juice, a little bit of orange juice and sometimes, it can be mixed with pulp from any other fruit to get a healthy juice without a lot of calories into it. Since it is so healthy, it can be seen as water with gas.

Tonic Water

Tonic water on the other hand, is not such a great substitute for water, and not so great to mix in to make juices. Tonic water is basically sparkling water with quinine added to it, simply because it was used for medical purposes some years ago. Quinine grants tonic water a bitter taste along with some supposed health benefits that, nowadays, aren’t really approved by the FDA. Nevertheless, a lot of people choose tonic water simply because of its bitter taste, aa opposed to the plain taste that water has.

Tonic water cannot (or at least is shouldn’t) be added to juices because it has calories, which takes away the whole healthy and calorie free thing from it. The amount of calories tonic water has make it an unhealthy alternative to plain water because after all, you would be drinking calories throughout your day, and lots of them. You can only imagine the negative effects this would have on your life after a few months of drinking in your calories as if they literally were just plain water.
