The Sudden Onset Of Headaches

Do you regularly suffer from headaches, migraines, or hangovers? Regardless of whether you get migraines or suffer from a hangover, headaches primarily arise as a result of nervous system disorders. In fact, headaches are the most common form of nervous system disorder in the world. If headaches are a common occurrence for you stay tuned as we will soon reveal what causes a majority of headaches.

Types of Headaches

With over 200 different types of headaches you will be extremely lucky if you find out what is the main cause of your headache. Approximately 90% of people suffer from headaches occasionally with more than 47% of adults who have had a headache within the past year.

Some people get headaches so bad that they need to take some form of medication. About 50% of people with headaches tend to self-medicate. At times headaches are so profound that headache sufferers need to take off out work. Migraines account for nearly 157 million missed workdays every year.

Getting a Proper Diagnosis

Although headaches are so common, headaches often go undiagnosed and are not properly treated. Only 40% of people who suffer from migraines have been diagnosed by medical professionals and 8% of these individuals state that their migraines do not affect their ability to perform job related duties.

5 Biggest Triggers of Headaches

What actually triggers headaches?

1. Sex
Sex tends to trigger headaches for some people. In fact, some headache sufferers get less severe headaches during sexual activity. There are two different types of headaches that are triggered by sexual activity. Sudden onset headaches occur within seconds following an orgasm. They arise without any warning and produce a stabbing or throbbing sensation. Gradual onset headaches start off as a slight ache on the sides of the head. The pain associated with the gradual onset headache increases as the sexual activity intensifies.

2. Stress
Stress creates what is referred to as tension headaches. Tension headaches are by far the most common type of headaches in adults as about 90% of adults tend to have tension headaches.

3. Caffeine
Caffeine also tends to trigger the onset of headaches. Consuming more than 200mg of caffeine could potentially result in headaches. Since the average adult in the United States tend to consume about 277mg of caffeine per day, headaches are very prevalent in the average caffeine consumer.

4. Allergies
Allergies contribute to migraines. People with allergies are 14 times more likely to get migraines. Why is this so? The body tends to release histamines that cause blood vessels in the brain to dilate once it encounters allergens. The pressure from the dilation of the brains blood vessels creates pressure which causes a headache.

5. Specific Foods
Be sure to avoid foods such as aspartame, bananas, chocolate, dairy products, peanuts, pizza, and potato chips as these foods are very common causes of headaches.
