One of the biggest honors that you can have is achieving presidency. John Quincy Adams is one of the few men that has been able to reach this status during his lifetime. He was the sixth president of the United States. And is one of the few presidents that had a father that also served as president. He was known as an eloquent statesmen, but there is a lot more to the life and achievements of John Quincy Adams than just being president alone. It is important to learn what his major accomplishments really were. Here are the major accomplishments of John Quincy Adams.
1. Treaty of Paris
Much of John Quincy’s experience actually came at a very young age. He actually saw the Battle of Bunker Hill from the family farm when he was only 10 years old and he also traveled with his father to be secretary when his father negotiated the Treaty of Paris. He went to school at Harvard University and was fluent in a number of languages. His background was something that made him destined for a career in politics. He had been exposed to it from such an early age that it was engrained in him.
2. Minster to Holland
Quincy was a huge supporter of George Washington and the neutral policy that he put in place. Due to the support that Quincy was providing, Washington made Quincy the minister to Holland. He then shortly after was named a senator and began is push forward to one day become president. He also served as secretary to the state when James Monroe was president.
3. Monroe Doctrine
This was one of the biggest contributions that John Quincy made and it stated that the US would would resist all of Europe’s moves to take over Latin America. It was a doctrine that made a lasting impression and changed many things.
4. Invention
Once he became president, he really put a premium on invention and science. He was one of the few presidents that thought in a unique way and was looking to move the country forward in a way that relied on advancement and science. He had a lot of goals for the nation, but there were some that thought his goals were a bit far fetched. He never let the ideas of anyone else hold him back and even though there were some that opposed him, this never took the path that he took as president.
