The ducts on your eyes are the responsible for draining the excess tears from your eyes. The ducts inside your eyes are called Nasolacrimal ducts. There is a tendency that the Nasolacrimal ducts inside your eyes can be blocked due to some circumstances. Many experts and medical professionals call the blocked Nasolacrimal ducts as the Dacryostenosis. The Dacryostenosis also have the high tendency to occur in infants due of tumors, infections, trauma and infections.
Blocked Tear Duct Can Affect Babies
Babies are also prone from having blocked tear duct. Babies having the blocked tear duct condition can manifest some symptoms. Even the new born infants are also prone to have blocked tear duct. Signs and symptoms of blocked tear duct can manifest even first few days after the birth of the baby and after they start producing some tears. The blocked tear duct may often infect only one eye of the baby.
Signs and symptoms for a Blocked Tear Duct
- Extreme Tearing- The baby that can produce excessive tears may have the tendency that the baby is suffering from blocked tear duct. This sign of blocked tear duct may manifest the eye of the baby to look wet or moist but without tears flowing down the face of the person or the child. It is easy to classify if a baby is suffering from this condition blocked tear duct because babies cannot produce heavy stream tears. If a baby can produce excessive tears without any sign of crying aside from the wet eyes then there is a tendency that the baby has a blocked tear duct.
- Conjunctiva – There is a buildup of yellowish white substance called Conjunctiva in the inner part of the eye. The Conjunctiva may also form a lining in the eyelids and eyelashes. The eyelids of a person with blocked tear duct may stick together after sleeping.
- Red Irritated Eyes – Blocked tear duct symptoms may also manifest redness and swelling of the eyelids of the person. You may also experience irritation and itchiness in the skin around your eye area. If your tear duct or the lacrimal duct remains completely blocked surely the duct sac will be filled with fluid that can definitely infect the drainage system of your eyes. This scenario can relatively cause infection that may also lead the person to have eye redness and fever. Your nose can also be affected by the blocked tear duct. Redness, swelling and mucus in the eye may also occur if a person has blocked tear duct.
- Respiratory Infection – such as cold can also manifest the symptom of blocked tear duct. Too much exposure to dirty wind and dust can also trigger the blocked tear duct of the person to get worst.
